Learning The Brand

G Bomb Longboards let us step away from corporate B2B strategies, to the fun side of consumer marketing & design. We were able to target a specific audience in a way that wasnt bounded by creative limitations. The first thing we needed to do to work with the brand was experience the brand... and longboarding. G Bomb delivered 6 boards and hardware to our office and flew to Austin to teach us how to custom build longboard setups. They brought many local longboarders to our initial meetings so we could really understand the "who" we were marketing to.

What They Needed

There was a great deal more to this project than web design. We spent countless hours with the brand learning what they were about while following them around filming video marketing pieces and short films. Once we really felt like we understood the longboarding community, we started to outline the digital strategy. The company wanted to showcase their products in a rich environment, while having an easy to manage yet robust shopping cart to sell their product globally. We built and launched their marketing portion of the website and full blown e commerce and custom inventory management system.

During the launch something unexpected happened. G Bomb Longboards positioned themselves to sell customers their very first longboards, but we found that allowing first-time customers to build a custom board from scratch in the shopping cart was problematic to say the least. It was imperative that customers know what options worked best for them. Though we provided the customers with hundreds of recommended combinations, it was clear that most customers were first time longboard purchasers, and what they really needed was consulting. In response to this challenge we launched a social media community where first time customers could not only get information from the company, but also from experienced longboarders. We also created web communication forms that made sure the customers could easily access the sales team via web to answer questions and help users get the right board built.

The Result

Organic marketing the company received from building a great product, combined with our social media campaign and web launch, allowed G Bomb to start selling products globally a week after we launched the site. We still get emails from the guys every time they set a new weekly record in sales.
