What They Needed

FreeAustinWifi.com is a side product of DiscountElectronics.com. The company is launching a local campaign here in the greater Austin area to deliver free wifi to local businesses. We wanted to create a website that felt friendly and really captured the Austin spirit.

What We Did

We integrated a custom website & content management system with a Google maps application. This allows the customer to add endless restaurants to create their own interactive virtual Austin map, while showing off all the locations which provide free wifi to their customers.

The Result

Discount Electronics has launched a free Wi-Fi pilot project and is recruiting 50 bars, restaurants or cafes interested in becoming a complementary hot spot. The Round Rock-based company, which specializes in selling refurbished Dell Inc., announced the project April 1 and set up a Web site where local businesses can sign up. The company said it only requires that the business see at least 200 customers per day. The San Francisco Bakery on West Anderson Lane was the first to sign up for the program. Others include El Nuevo Mexican Restaurant, Slick Willie's North, Slick Willie's South and La Casita Restaurant.
