Accessories You May Purchase For Your Stairlift Product

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

You know how cars are always adorned by all sorts of accessories, right? Men go ga-ga over the bling-blings for their wheels, almost the same way women go crazy over belts, brooches and the sorts.

Well, for stairlifts, the primary purpose these accessories serve is safety and comfort and not design. Stairlifts may already be costly as they are, but it would still do you good to purchase accessories to ensure the well being of your loved ones.

See more information about stairlifts here.

Frame type Sit And Stand – If the stairlift product that’s to be installed at your house would be used by more than one person, perhaps it’s better to purchase a sit and stand frame for your stairlifts, especially when neither have the same health problems. With this type of frame for your stairlifts, the user or passenger may be able to either sit or stand while he/she climbs up and down the stairs.

Seatbelt – Yes, just like when you’re riding a roller coaster or your ordinary Ford truck, it’s always advisable to wear a seatbelt…just in case anything happens. You can choose between a seatbelt that would be wrapped around your lap – the manufacturers describe it as an inertia reel lap harness – or one that would strap both your shoulders – this time, referred to as static type, 3 point fixing over shoulder harness. Either way, as long as you have a seatbelt for your stairlift, the chances of risking injury are less likely.

Hinged Rail – In a small or compact sized house where there’s little space available, stairlifts with hinged rails are quite ideal because you could fold the lower part of the rail when it’s not in use. This is also ideal if your stairway is right next to the doorway and the lower part of the rail of the stairlift just serves as another obstruction.

Power Folding Footrest – Let’s just say that you have a mighty big house and even with the dough rolling in nonstop, you still prefer to install stairlifts instead of an elevator, no matter that there’s about twenty feet worth of stairs to climb up and down.

Wouldn’t it be nice for the passenger to have a footrest while they’re traveling from the East to the West Coast? But seriously though, the footrest for the stairlifts can also be handy for users or passengers who have problems bending down.

Power Swivel Seat – This is more for the comfort of passengers as they enter and exit the stairlifts.

Storage A Clean Solution

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

Rental storage units, also known as self-storage and mini-storage units, are a booming business right now, as storage facilities seem to be cropping up everywhere. People collect more and more items, and their possessions grow out of their attics and basements, forcing them to rent monthly storage units. The appeal of storage units is having access to a clean, safe, well-lit and efficient area for storage. It also helps to get the clutter out of the house and into another place altogether, either for sorting through or keeping for a while.

Storage away from the home or business can be an easy and convenient solution to disorganization and lack of space. Over a lifetime of acquiring belongings, many people simply run out of room to keep it all, but do not want to give everything away because of the sentiment attached to the items.

An outside storage unit

In the past 45 or so years, tens of thousands of personal storage facilities have sprung up like wildflowers all over the world. The structures are usually made of metal and concrete with roll-up garage-type doors. They are found in all kinds of surroundings, from rural to suburban to urban. In modern times, outside storage units have become like an addition to the house for controlling the overflow of beloved material goods.

The increase in relocation in recent years has also contributed to the wider use of storage units. It is now common for people to live in ten or more different places during their lives. Since they are not staying in a homestead for much of their lives, the things they own have come to represent home to many modern families.

Some people who seek out storage units are retirees, looking to make their living space more manageable by moving to independent senior apartments and assisted living homes. They may be downgrading from a four-bedroom house filled with all their cherished belongings to a one-bedroom apartment. The storage unit becomes the solution to what to do with their possessions before they are ready to sell them or give them to relatives.

The high activity lifestyle of many people contributes to their reasons for having a storage unit. Seasonal sports equipment, such as camping gear, water skis, personal watercrafts, snow boards, tennis rackets, and golf clubs are some of the things people store when the time of year does not call for it. Small closets and lack of attics and basements are other reasons. Some people choose to store for a few months, while others maintain storage units for years. The cost of renting a storage unit is less for those who are willing to sign long-term leases.

Of course, businesses need extra storage too. Many offices rent storage spaces to keep track of old invoices, receipts, and statements. Not too long ago, businesses were using much more paper and less computer files. For a business that has been around a while, all that paper has to go somewhere, at least for the recommended seven years. Many companies also rent storage units to store supplies and equipment, such as those used for a painting and construction company.

Whether the reason for leasing a self-storage space is personal or business-related, here are some tips for maximizing the use of a storage unit:

- Put most used items in the front of the unit for easy access.

- Pack boxes so that they are easy to move and handle.

- Write the contents of the boxes on both top and sides of box for easier finding.

- When stacking boxes, put heavy boxes on the bottom and lighter ones on the top.

- Maximize the space of the unit by disassembling furniture and stacking items strategically.

Build Your House With Bathtubs

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

As an architect, of course I have strong feelings about elements that should never be left out of any home building project. For example, I believe that no home should be built without bathtubs.

I know, bathtubs sounds like a strange thing to be so concerned about, but it is true. I always advise my clients, regardless of their age or the kind of home they are building, to not even consider building a home without bathtubs. When they ask me why I can usually give a pretty strong defense of bathtubs.

Bathtubs do something for a bathroom and for a home that ordinary showers without bathtubs cannot do. Bathtubs give the people of a home the ability to have a quiet place of refuge to relax and unwind at the end of a hard day or week. Think about how great it feels to take a hot shower at the end of a long and cold day. Now think about how much nicer it would be to soak in a hot bathtub for thirty minutes instead. Sounds nice right?

I’m convinced about bathtubs in every home because I am convinced that we are far too busy and far too stressed out as a society. I am convinced that we could all, men, women and children alike, use a little bit of space and quiet away from the rest of the world.

I’ll admit that I hadn’t utilized the pleasures of bathtubs until just a few years ago when my family and I moved into a new house and my wife insisted upon bathtubs in every room of the house for our kids. I agreed during the building process and within weeks after moving in I was trying out the bathtubs for myself and realizing how truly amazing they were. In all my years of living I had yet to find something as relaxing and truly peaceful as spending time in water filled bathtubs.

So if you are thinking about building a home or just of buying an already built home, do so with caution. Do not let yourself buy or build a home without bathtubs. You have no idea what you’re missing if you don’t have them. I guarantee you, bathtubs are a necessary element for every house. They add a special space for people to get away, relax and unwind. So don’t even think about owning a home without one or more bathtubs.

Enhance Your Room With A Closet Door Mirror

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

Mirrors are a good addition to any room. They immediately make the room look larger, which is one reason you often see mirrored walls at restaurants and other places of business. Their light-reflecting properties brighten up a room. If you have a bedroom that needs brightening but you don’t have any space, try a closet door mirror.

There are two ways to add mirrors to your closet door. You can buy a kit that allows you to add mirrors to your closet doors. This is a reasonably-priced option, but make sure to install the mirrors well so they don’t fall off.

Another option is to replace your closet doors with a closet door mirror. These doors, like traditional closet doors, come in a variety of styles and sizes. They tend to look better than attaching a mirror to an existing door, and you will have no worries about falling glass.

Their is a large variety of closet door mirrors to choose from. It’s easiest if you stay with the type of door you have now. In other words, if you have a bi-fold or tri-fold door, don’t try to replace it with a sliding door. You will find plenty of options using your existing style and track and won’t have to worry as much about getting the fit right.

You can buy closet door mirrors where the mirror covers the entire door. If you prefer, you can find doors that have a metal frame or a wood molding. There are several choices of wood frame to suit your style and the style of the room.

Closet door mirrors are reasonably priced. If you are building a new home and want to add them, the floor-to-ceiling variety can save you money because the contractor doesn’t have to take time to drywall and frame.

There are kits for mirrored closet doors that will help the door stay on the track, but not all kits offer this feature. When purchasing, you will be much more satisfied if you buy a door that doesn’t jump off the tracks.

A closet door mirror adds light, the feeling of space, and elegance to any bedroom. If you are on a budget and can afford only one home improvement, consider a closet door mirror. There are not many other improvements that add so much to a room for such a small cost.

Below is a video about sliding glass mirror closet doors.

Save Money By Improving Hot Water Usage

Filed in Plumbing Comments Off

Nobody likes cold showers, particularly early in the morning. Take the following steps, however, and you can save serious cash on your water heating costs.

Save Money By Improving Hot Water Usage

To the surprise of many, heating water is the biggest energy expense in the typical home. Most people think the highest cost is heating or cooling the interior air, but this simply is not true. Fortunately, taming your energy use for water heating is fairly simple if you take some basic steps.

One of the reasons heating water is such a big expense has to do with time. Simply put, your water heat works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. When you wake up in the morning and take a shower, the water heater fires up to keep enough hot water in the tank. Obviously, this is necessary. What is not necessary, however, is the number of times the tank fires up during the day when everyone is at school or work. How about at 2 in the morning when everyone is asleep? When your water heater uses energy to keep the pool of water in the tank hot during these periods, it is a pure waste of energy and unnecessary expense on your utility bill.

To defeat this problem, there are two basic steps you should consider. The first is to go with a solar water heater. Unlike solar panels systems for your entire home, water heater are much smaller and more efficient. They produce plenty of hot water throughout the day, so you should be fine. If you take a lot of baths and showers, they can be supplemented with electrical power drawn from the utility company. Even if this happens, you are still using far less utility power than before. The other alternative is to go with a tankless system. These on demand water heaters are more efficient because they do not use energy to heat water in the middle of the night or during other off hour periods. Look for an Energy Star rating to get the most efficient model.

Energy star logo

Look for the energy star logo

There are other practical steps you can take to cut buck on your energy use without changing your water usage. First, turn down the thermostat on your water heater to 115 degrees. Second, insulate your water heater with a pad you can buy at any home improvement store. Third, insulate the pipes carrying the hot water. Fourth, replace all faucets with low flow products. Fourth, take showers instead of baths – the water usage is much less.

The average residence in the United States uses more than 700 gallons of water a week. Making minor changes to your energy use can go a long way.

Home Improving with Solar – The Important Concept of Gain

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

You’ve decided to pursue a solar home improvement, but aren’t so keen on the idea of putting panels on your roof. No worries, you just need to understand the concept of gain.

I Gotta Gain Some Heat

I’ll cut to the chase – gain refers to how you generate heat for your home without solar panels. You can think of it as gaining heat by manipulating the power of the sun. There are three categories of gain: direct gain, indirect gain and isolated gain. So much for the mumbo jumbo, what are we really talking about here?

Direct gain refers to improving your house in a manner that allows the sun to…[drum roll]…directly provide power in the form of heat to your home. For instance, if you install large windows in the south facing side of your home and put down heat storing flooring such as masonry, you are pursuing direct gain. The sun will directly heat the home through the windows during the day and will also heat up the flooring. As the sun goes down, the flooring will continue to radiate heat. The advantage of direct gain is it is fairly easy to implement. The disadvantage is it only works during the day and for a few hours afterwards if you’ve put in a heat storing flooring material.

Indirect gain is a bit more complicated. It refers to the idea of using a structure between the exterior and interior of the house to store heat produced by exposure to sunlight. The basic idea is to get more heat production for a longer period of time. Indirect gain is typically accomplished by building a thermal wall out of masonry, known as a Trombe Wall, as the south facing wall of your home or a part of it. The wall is built out of a material that absorbs heat such as concrete or brick and then has glass placed over it. Put another way, the south wall is a window with a brick wall behind it. The wall materials suck up the power of the sun and store heat. This heat is then radiated when you need it by opening vents in the wall. The advantage of indirect gain is you get longer, more controlled heating. The disadvantage is you have the world’s weirdest looking window on the south side of your home.

Isolated gain is a simple concept. Have you ever used a greenhouse to grow flowers or tomatoes or…well, something? Isolated gain works just like a greenhouse, except you are providing heat to yourself instead of plants. Essentially, you build a self-contained glass structure on the south side of your home which is also well insulated. The structure heats up in the sun during the day to very high temperatures. When you need heat, you just turn on a fan, which moves it into the house through venting you’ve installed.

The beauty of any of these systems is they are fairly simple concepts to understand. If solar panels don’t appeal to you, just go for some gain.

Foam Insulation, More Than Just Staying Warm

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

When many people think of foam insulation they think of staying warm in the winter and saving money on their heating bills. This is especially common thinking in the northern climes where for a while houses were not insulated very well. The idea was that if they added a layer of foam insulation to the outside of their house they would be saving a lot of money on their gas bill.

There are other advantages to foam insulation that I would like to talk about in the rest of this article however and so that is what I am going to do. Foam insulation when compared to fiberglass has a number of attractive benefits. Number one on many people’s list is that it is much easier to work with. It does not make your skin itchy. It does not have to be rolled and it easier to carry. It is lighter as well and is able to cover more surface area than does a roll of fiber glass insulation. And it does all of these things without sacrificing in the “R value” which is the measure of effectiveness of insulation.

In fact because it is denser than the typical fiberglass roll, foam insulation has better insulating qualities per inch of thickness and so thinner applications of the material can give you similar if not better level of protection from the cold.

We have been talking about protection from the cold in our discussion of foam insulation but what most people forget is that protection from the cold in the winter is also protection from the heat escaping your house in the winter. In similar fashion insulation whatever material it may be is also protection against heat coming you’re your house in the summer and if you have air conditioning, cool escaping. So not only will it save you money in the winter and keep you warm, it will save you money in the summer and keep you cool.

So if you are thinking about putting vinyl siding up or have an addition in mind for your house you might want to consider layering the outside with even a thin layer of foam insulation. You will be both hotter and cooler when you want to be, and not the other way around. It is an easy task to tack up some of this wonder material, which means that it wont cost that much more, especially when you consider how much you will be saving in the long run.

Updating Bathroom Furniture

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

It’s surprising the difference new bathroom furniture can make from the simple addition of a new bathroom vanity or bathroom basin.  Sprucing up your bathroom and giving it some pizzazz  can cost little money without breaking the bank.  By carefully accessing your  design needs at the onset of  your remodeling project this will save both time and money. By capitalizing on the existing architecture of the bathroom can be beneficial for redecorating on a budget. Before tearing down walls and ripping up floor tiles consider what can be preserved in your bathroom in order to free up money for other necessary purchases.

Applying wall finishes can give tattered walls a unique look by using different techniques such as texturizing with paint and plaster or wall stenciling to hide any imperfections. Cracked ceramic floor tiles can easily be replaced. Whether it is single tile or a few ones, take a trip to a flooring center and have then match the tile with the existing one.  If  by chance the tile is no longer available, an inexpensive and imaginative solution is to create a new pattern within the existing tiles. Remove a few additional tiles to create a two-toned checkerboard look  floor that follows your color scheme and bathroom motif .

Bathroom vanities are often the centerpiece of a bathroom remodeling or decorating project. By changing the bathroom vanity you can add elegance by creating a traditional or contemporary look as well as providing much needed storage space especially for smaller bathrooms. The bathroom vanity should always be the first piece of bathroom furniture purchased. Choosing the right vanity will help you select the correct basin if not sold as a complete unit and will also set the tone for the style of bathroom mixer tap as well as other bathroom accessories such as wall mirrors and other bathroom fixtures.

One of the least expensive and easiest ways to upgrade the look of your bathroom is to replace the basin. With unlimited designs and styles available from the standard white porcelain to freestanding pedestal basins can give your bathroom just the right boost. Aside from the addition of a new bathroom vanity and basin to alter the appearance of the room, other finishing touches can be added such as independent storage units to coordinate with the existing bathroom furniture that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but alleviates clutter.

Both practical and affordable wall-mounted mirrors can beautify the bathroom while creating the illusion of space by adding depth and dimension to the bathroom. Today there is a vast assortment of illuminated and plain bathroom mirrors framed to frameless and in a number of finishes the perfect touch for both contemporary and traditional bathrooms. Bathroom mirrors are the most flexible of bathroom furniture pieces, since they are easily suited to adapt with other bathroom décor without sacrificing style.

Improving Curb Appeal With Tile Roofing

Filed in Uncategorized Comments Off

If you’re looking for ways to improve your roof and boost the value of your home, you may want to take a look at tile.

Contractors say adding a tile roof is one of the most cost-effective construction projects available. The stylish roofs can endure some of nature’s toughest elements (such as wind, hail, rain and fire) and roof tiles usually carry a slightly longer warranty than other roofing surfaces. An added benefit: Tile roofs are an environmentally friendly building choice. Here’s a closer look:

Cost Benefits

Tile has a life cycle of 50 to 100 years, depending on the tile, making it an economical choice for many homeowners. Additionally, tile roofing will reduce direct heat transfer. As a result, a tile roof can lower air-conditioning costs in hotter climates and produce more constant temperatures in colder regions. In addition to cutting heating costs, the constant temperature reduces the odds of ice accumulation on the roof.

Tile roofing offers a number of architectural style choices and they come in a variety of colors and shapes that can help set your home apart. For instance, concrete and clay tile roofs are as unique as the homes they’re installed on and they’re available in finishes and styles designed to accentuate a home’s look.

Tile roof warranties are often transferable and backed by well-known, reputable companies. That’s one reason experts say a tile roof’s higher installation cost, when spread over the full life of the roof, is actually an investment that will increase the value of a home when it is sold or resold.

A common misconception is that roof tile is too heavy for many structures. Most modern buildings are strong enough to support the weight of a tile roof. Most older structures can handle the weight of standard tile, provided all previous roofing materials are removed first. Moreover, many roof tile manufacturers now offer lightweight tile, which is particularly suitable for reroofing projects.

Tile has been Europe and Asia’s first roofing choice for centuries, with many tile-roofed structures requiring little or no maintenance. Tile’s durability has been clearly demonstrated by how well it has withstood the test of time, weather and natural disasters.

New Types Of Tile

Today, homeowners can find new types of stronger, more energy-efficient tile roofing in staten island new york. Some new tile is even Class A fire-rated and able to withstand high winds, hail and earthquakes better than any other roofing material.

Insulating Foundations

Filed in Plumbing Comments Off

Even if your home seems to be tightly sealed and well-insulated, if you have a foundation that’s not insulated properly, you will experience a large loss of heat.

Foundation insulation can result in lower heating costs and may help avoid water vapor condensation problems.

Poor foundation installation can make below grade rooms very uncomfortable and can result in many problems, to much moisture, radon infiltration, and an influx of insects.

Foundation insulation is especially important if you have radiant heat system. This article will outline the various types of insulation available.

When insulating your basement you need to make sure you avoid moisture problems. Moisture can cause mold and can result in physical damage to you interior finished walls, as well as your carpeting. And mold can seriously affect your health.

For a newly constructed home, proper placed footing drainage and waterproofing should avoid most moisture problems. For an existing home, if your basement shows signs of moisture problems, these problems should be addressed immediately.

When insulation is installed on the dirt side of a basement wall it has a lot of advantages and some disadvantages also. On a positive note, it decreases what is called thermal bridging which cuts down on heat loss through the foundation. It also protects the foundation water proof coating from damage when backfilling, and acts as a vessel to protect against moisture.

In extreme climates, during freeze-thaw cycles it can also protect your home from unwanted water and reduces the possibility of condensation on basement surfaces.

Some disadvantages would be that it’s expensive when installed in an existing building and it may still be vulnerable to an insect infestation.

Many experts believe that the best way to keep your basement dry is to insulate the exterior of the foundation walls with a rigid insulation board and a water-proof coating under that board that covers the entire foundation, from the footing all the way up to just below where finished grade will be.

A perimeter drainage system needs to be carefully designed and consist of perforated plastic pipe, per washed gravel, along with a good quality filter fabric especially in areas with poor soil drainage. This will help in keeping the rock free from dirt allowing the water to filter down into the perforated pipe.

For an existing home, adding insulation to the interior of the foundation is probably a more cost effective alternative. Plus, there’s a wide selection of materials available for almost every type of insulation.

If your foundation wall is masonry blocks, you can fill the cores of your blocks with high-pressured foam. This works far better than most of the other methods.

When insulating a Slab-on-grade the following ways should be done. You should insulate under the slab along with the edges of the slab, and between the footings and slab. This will reduce heat loss from both the foundation and the slab.

Remember that all exposed insulation needs to be protected from the elements in some way, whether using cement, metal, or some other kind of membrane.

For new construction insulation follow these guidelines: first comes about four inches of gravel and under-slab drainage and plumbing pipes, a layer of radiant barrier that is approved for concrete use, then one to two inches or rigid insulation, followed by two to three inches or sand, and lastly is the floor slab.

It doesn’t make sense to take on a major renovation if you plan to sell in the near future. If this will be a long-term home for you, then it may be worthwhile to invest in a major overhaul. But, keep in mind that design tastes change over time.

Talk to your local real estate agent to find out whether your remodel plans are likely to meet with market approval. The point of remodeling is to make your home better suit your lifestyle. But, it’s also important to consider the resale potential of your improvements.

The value of a remodel project will vary from one place to the next. Your agent can help you determine if you will be over-improving your home for your neighborhood. Keep in mind that most remodel projects end up costing more than budget. Factor this in to your cost analysis.

Bathroom Tiles And The Best Bathroom Design Ideas

Filed in Plumbing Comments Off

bathroom_tileBathroom tiles set the tone for the space. Creating a mood with bathroom tiles can lend a unique character to your bathroom. No bathroom can be complete without nice floor tiles that compliment the fittings and fixtures. A dynamic pattern on your bathroom floor or a contrasting wall color can really set the tone of your bathroom.

No longer are bathrooms limited in the choice of tiles to plain white, square shapes, and glazed ceramic finishes. Today, there are several hundreds of different styles, colors, sizes when it comes to finding that, and elusive, perfect bathroom tile. The materials are no longer limited to ceramic. You get tiles in travertine, sandstone, marble, granite to name a few.

If you are worried about the tile sizes for your bathroom, then quit worrying because now tiles are available in a variety of sizes. Piece them together can create a unique, striking, and eye-catching designing either on the floor or on the wall of your bathroom. If you think, you are not very creative cover the entire wall from floor to ceiling with both the same type of tile as well as same color. Or you can create a completely different effect by mixing it up and having one color of tile at the bottom of the wall and a different (contrast) on the top of the same wall separated by thin and textured pieces that work as a chair rail clearly distinguishing between the two types of tiles used. Your imagination is the only limitation when it comes to bathroom design.

Depending on the bathroom tile idea you have in mind, you will be able to choose tiles that suit the desired décor the best. The starting point for bathroom decoration is the range of shapes, sizes, textures, patterns, and materials these tiles are available in. A creative bathroom tile design idea can help you have the bathroom of your dreams.

Ceramic is the preferred material for bathroom floor tile as it is durable, offers resistance to dampness, and is non-slippery to walk on and use when wet. It is also easy to clean and stains can be removed with lesser effort. Of course, this does not mean that other materials aren’t user-friendly or durable. You can select tiles in the materials of your choice, but check with the salesperson on durability and life.

We are listing down some bathroom floor tile ideas than can help you create the bathroom that you always wished for.

* Solid Color Tiles: Floor tiles in solid colors for your bathroom can help create a warm ambience. You can use tile borders in contrasting colors to the floor tile or you can create a pattern using two or more than two differently colored tiles. The visual impact will be very interesting.

* Different Tile Sizes: Try to use colored tiles for floors and walls in different sizes or lay them diagonally to create unique patterns.

* Contrasting Grout Color: Using contrasting grout color with ceramic floor tiles looks very interesting. Ex: if you want to use white tiles then use grout in red, blue, or yellow color for contrast. Do not forget to apply sealers to grout lines in heavy traffic areas to protect and preserve the color of the grout.

* Using Your Favorite Tile Color: If your favorite bathroom tile color is blue, you can consider adding some blue decorative tiles on the walls or use different shapes/textures to make the composition visually appeal.

* Contemporary, Chic Look: Use bold and bright colors with graphics against plain backgrounds. Add contemporary and sleek styled accessories and enjoy the chic look!

* Turn Up the Love Feel: Add a touch of romance to your bathroom with floral tiles in pastel or soft shades such as pink, light blue, light green or use hand painted sinks and maybe get a wooden floor to complete the love-dovey look!

* The Mediterranean Look: A mix of terracotta tiles and Mexican or Spanish hand-painted tiles for the floors will create the trendy Mediterranean look.

The important thing when designing your bathroom is to pay attention to the bathroom tile colors because colors affect your mood, while creating a warm, cold, or intimate ambience in the space. If you like bright colors them peach and yellow could be the colors for you. These warm colors make your bathroom feel cozy. Decorate Your Kitchen On A Budget With Kitchen Cabinets

Filed in Kitchen Remodeling Comments Off

maple kitchen cabinetsAre you bored with your kitchen? You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars to give it a little face lift. Just follow these tips and you’ll make big changes with kitchen cabinets on a little budget.

Need a colorful window treatment? Simply purchase an inexpensive basswood shade and paint it in a bright color. You can use a partially dry brush and paint randomly for an aged look.

Paint your walls a bright, sunny yellow and randomly paint over a few areas with a deeper yellow, a dark peach, and terra cotta. Mix the paints with a glazing liquid and wipe each coat with a wet cloth before the paint dries.

Paint your old kitchen cabinets with a few layers of paint using a dry brush. You can purchase pin stripe tape for automobiles and apply it just under the molding for an attractive accent.

Using a fabric panel with hook-and-loop fastening tape to create skirting around your under-counter areas. You can cover aging appliances such as dishwashers and worn cabinets with a colorful new curtain that hangs from underneath the edge of your counter tops.

Use your mismatched dishes and cups to decorate a stylish shelf hanging on your kitchen wall. Brightly colored dishes and hanging teacups make cute decorations.

Use your treasured family photos to decorate a shelf or nooks. You can use cheap picture frames and a cute shelf as an expression of your home and your life.

Kitchen Cabinets & Counter Tops

If your counter tops are not what they once were, remove the old surface and replace it with colorful, mismatched tiles you can purchase for next to nothing at a discount home store.  This can match your new and beautiful kitchen cabinets.  If your counter tops are uneven, use a piece of plywood to even out the surface before you put down the tiles.

If your refrigerator has seen its better days, have a local supplier cut chalkboard to fit the front and glue it directly to the surface of your refrigerator. Use pine boards to make a border and you will have your own personal note center right on your refrigerator.

Decorating your kitchen does not need to be expensive. With a little imagination and a little work you can turn even the most boring kitchen into a work of art. Colorful curtains and paint will make a huge difference in any kitchen. No matter how small or dark the space may be.

  • 1. Heating & Air Conditioning Repair Tips for Keeping Your Systems Running Smooth
  • 2. Overview Heating & air conditioning repair can be extremely costly. That’s why routine maintenance of your home’s HVAC system can help you avoid expensive and premature repairs. Follow these simple tips to keep your air conditioning and heating system running smooth all year long.
  • 3. Set Your Fan to Automatic• Basic settings on your home’s thermostat allow the fan to run continuously or to only come on when hot or cold air are needed. By setting your fan to automatic, it only runs when needed and not all the time. This can cut down on your energy consumption and extend the life of your HVAC system fan. It will also reduce your electricity consumption and eliminate the need for more frequent duct cleaning. Heating & air conditioning repair involving your systems fan can be tedious and expensive work.
  • 4. Routine Maintenance of A/C Systems• Some of the most common causes of repair work on air conditioning systems are because of neglect. Not having your system inspected on an annual basis can mean expensive repairs down the road. Have a certified technician check your system’s Freon levels, lubricate moving parts, and ensure electrical connections are not corroded. A do-it-yourself maintenance item is to change the filters on you’re A/C unit on a routine basis. Some of these tasks may require small investments, especially if you have to contact a professional. Spending a small amount of money for routine maintenance however will mean no large repair bills down the road.
  • 5. Heating Specific Maintenance• To avoid heating & air conditioning repair on all HVAC systems, your home’s heating system should also be routinely serviced. The type of tasks involved will depend largely on the age and setup of your homes heating system. Have a professional check your oil or gas connections. Improperly connected lines are a fire hazard and can lead to health problems. Applying rust preventing paint at the joints of lines can prevent freezing of internal components such as diaphragms. Changing the system’s filter is also key to optimizing performance. A dirty filter can cause strain on the system making it work harder to heat or cool your home.

These are no more the less noticed accessories of your bathroom but have become one of the most important items for your shower area in the bathroom. Gone are the days when people just used to hang shower curtains on some metals wood rods. Lifestyles have changed now and people are quite aware of the design and styles of shower curtain rods.

The selection of rod will also depend on the type of curtain you want to hang. If you are planning to hang dark colored curtains, then go for metallic shower curtain rods with curved knobs. If you are planning to cover your shower area from four sides, use rectangular shower curtain rods. Use curved shower curtain rods that will fit built-in tub units and various other shower units. You can also use crescent shower curtain rods that will fit your tub opening. There is also another type of shower curtain rods, which are called shower enlarger rod. You can use this rod when you require enlarging the shower area in your bath.

Ideally wooden rods should be avoided as a shower curtain rods since these rods go through wears and tears every time you open and draw the curtain.

Shower curtains come in different size and shape, as far as the rod width is concerned. You have to select one that will fit your bathroom structure, design and shower area. However, since shower curtains are usually lightweight curtains, light metal rods are perfect to hang the curtains. As far as the length of the rod is concerned, it will depend on your bathroom height. The shower curtain rods need to be durable and long lasting because these rods have to withstand daily use.

However, you must not forget that your shower curtain rods too need to be maintained like the curtain rods you use in your rooms.
